Walmart & PETA duke it out for most hate over weekend

"Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, who died in a freak stingray accident was attacked by PETA on what would have been his 57th birthday

This weekend saw an all out battle between People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and Walmart, for the most hate tweets they could each get.

Getting in early on Friday, PETA chose the occasion of what would have been beloved crocodile hunter Steve Irwin's 57th birthday to launch a series of tweets throwing shade at the late animal activist.

PETA gained a little support with their killjoy message, but more dramatically they inspired a Twitter storm of 35,000 clap backs and call outs within a few hours.

Not to be outdone, Walmart had been promoting their Baby Savings Day on Saturday, Feb. 23, touted as the "largest in-store baby event of the year" with rollbacks both in store and online. Nearly 3,000 stores were supposed to be participating.

And when thousands of pregnant and new parents descended on the stores to find staff weren't even aware of the event, tempers began to frey and they too took to twitter.

Our Evening Moos researchers have had a great time going through and pulling out some of the best tweets for your schadenfreuden pleasure.

Irish Youtube gamer, Jack Septiceye compared PETA to a really nasty child.

Thousands of everyday people stood up for Steve Irwin, paying homage to the special role he played in their lives.

Others marvelled at how PETA had bought together all types of people to condemn them.

Of course the obligatory Wikivandals were out in force too.

And some just enjoyed scoring against someone they'd been disliking for years
