In legal news this week, a chill has been cast over the Evening Moos offices by Republican Congressman Devin Nunes' legal actions against a fictional cow, some fictional grapes, and his fictional mother.
For legal reasons, we're holding off on saying whether the fictional cow is really Devin Nunes', but our lawyers tell us we can confirm he is disputing the assertion.
In the complaint, filed by Nunes' lawyer (not to be comfused with another Devin Nunes' Lawyer who has also begun chiming in on Twitter) on Monday, Devin Nunes' Cow, Devin Nunes' Mom, Elizabeth “Liz” Mair and Twitter have all been named as joint defendants. Nunes is asking for a quarter of a billion dollars in damages arising out of defendants’ negligence, defamation, insulting words, and civil conspiracy.
It claims that Devin Nunes’ Cow worked in concert with Devin Nunes' Mom, Elizabeth Mair and Twitter. It states "Devin Nunes’ cow engaged a vicious defamation campaign against Nunes that lasted over a year, and published (and republished) hundreds of false and defamatory statements, including the following:
- Nunes is a "treasonous cowpoke"
- "Devin’s boots are full of manure. He’s udder-ly worthless and its pasture time to move him to prison"
- "Devin is whey over his head in crime"
- "Nunes needs to be investigated. He knew the truth, yet conspired with a criminal, @realDonaldTrump, to conceal the facts from the investigation. Nunes is a criminal too"
- "718 more days until your term is up, Devin. Unless Mueller indicts you first"
- "724 more days, Devin, unless the indictment comes first"
- "It’s on, Ranking Member Nunes. #nunesindictment"
- "Devin Nunes is a traitor"
- "Devin Nunes used Leadership PAC funds on luxury vacay in his family’s native Portugal"
- "Nunes hung out with the Proud Boys at a private invite-only fundraiser"
Unsurprisingly, the complaint itself has stirred up more attention and mirth than the original Tweets, so it is unknown at this point if Devin Nunes' Lawyer (the real one) and Devin Nunes himself will be joining the list of defendants.
