What Timberwolf the koala went through while trying to find a mate.

From July to December, they say in Queensland, the koalas come out at night to find a mate.

And that's what lead to a 4 year old koala hanging on for his life to the grill of a car as it sped 55 miles (88kms) down the Bruce Highway to Gympie.

Like a scene from a Hollywood action thriller, or perhaps a cartoon, passengers of the vehicle recalled feeling a bump just outside of Maryborough. Nearly an hour later they stopped for fuel and found a very disgruntled bundle of fur clinging to their grill.

He then climbed down and attempted to wander into traffic. Perhaps in an effort to get a lift back home. The cars occupants had to fight him to keep him off the road until he was jumped from behind by a local vet who wrapped him in a sheet and transferred him to Australia Zoo.

The vets at Australia Zoo have named him Timberwolf, after their football team, and say he was lucky to survive the journey with nothing more than a torn nail.

Australia Zoo say they will hold onto him for 28 days to treat him for an unrelated chlamydia infection. After that they'll attempt to return him to as close to home as they can find. Koalas are very territorial and Timberwolf may not survive if he's released to an area he doesn't know.
