Restaurant bans cameras after going viral [Video]

American YouTuber living in Japan, TkyoSam, says he's still potentially facing legal action, months after his "sushi platter eye view" video went viral and stirred up the internet.

The Sushiro rotating sushi restaurant chain has issued an official apology to its customers after international attention, and is now banning photography in their restaurants.

The chain also assured customers the restaurant, including the rotating conveyor belt, had been cleaned and disinfected, and they are following up the matter with law enforcement.

In a video released this week, TkyoSam rides through the streets of Tokyo on his motorbike while telling his side of the story, and the reactions to it.

He talks about waking up after posting what he thought was a boring, yet picturesque video to his channel, and finding the views already in the thousands.

He says media outlets began calling to ask for comment, someone tried to buy the exclusive rights to the video, and then the YouTube comments started turning hateful.

"It's unhygienic" and "People's privacy..." were a common themes in the comments.   TkyoSam defended himself by describing the restaurant as "like dollar sushi by the way. This isn't like high quality 'le ronz en de teure' kind of.... It's just some like McDonalds of sushi pretty much"

TkyoSam describes being forced to deal with two divisions of YouTube, one of which seemed to be deliberately making it difficult for him. He eventually blurred some people that objected to being shown, pulled down the video entirely and then re-released it in its entirety with no blurring.

The video itself begins with TkyoSam putting the camera onto the conveyor and he and his friend watching it go on its merry way.

The camera moves past dinning booths filled with a cross section of Japanese restaurant goers.  Families, a girls night out, students, tourists and couples all give us a glimpse into their evening. Some didn't notice the camera while others did and were mainly friendly towards it, often waving.

In true human fashion, one guy even gave a one fingered salute as the camera passed by.

TkyoSam has been blogging from Japan for a number of years and teaches English in a Japanese school when he's not filmmaking.

Many of his videos feature himself riding a motorbike through the streets of Tokyo and describing his life there while showing viewers many of the sites he passes.

And now, without too much further ado, here is TkyoSam's whole unedited video.
